Evolv at the Red River Gorge

Welp,

The average temperature for the three days we were there would be the highest of any 3 days all summer. The sun's rays relentlessly chased us through the gorge as we scrambled from cliff to cliff.  Sleeping at night consisted of a cooling process and laying spread eagle trying to eliminate as much contact as possible.  Nevertheless, we were here to climb.

Mornings were cool, a nice awakening compared to the sweltering summer night before.   We planned for the day in accordance with the sun.   Bering a gallon of water, a towel, and 4 pounds of chalk we took it to the rock, lethargically.  After hiking to the base of the cliff we sat around for a while and took pictures as we waited for our bodies to cool.  As we lowered,  the sweat dripped off our backs like the beads of an ice cold beverage condensing fresh out of the cooler, which is what we needed.  The ice water we had prepared was bath warm by the time we wanted it.  With refreshment in mind, I remembered seeing a pipeline on the way to the crag flowing out of the hillside, which appeared to be tapping the mountain.  Ahhhhh.....it was.  The water consistently flowed as it drenched us in what felt like ice water, and I actually got the chills.

The next day we set up the Evolv booth and ran a demo just out the front door of Miguel's.  To my surprise, Ashima and Kai, two Evolv sponsored youngsters, were there for the weekend.  These two are truly talented.  I wonder what it is like to climb from their perspective.  We headed back out to the shady cliffs of the RRG late that morning after everyone else.  Today we had the company of friends from Alabama with us to share stories and trade belays.  However, it was just as hot as the day before.  So, we were only slightly more motivated.  Just kidding, we tOrE iT uP!!!

I can't wait for my return this fall.
